Karlovac - a new member
It was very good to see representatives from Karlovac at the Derry EWT Symposium.
Looking for more info about the town I turned up the Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karlovac. Apparently various facts need confirming but an interesting starting point for a fascinating example of an 'ideal city' fortress town.

Update to China links page- a Dissertation on York's City walls
The China links page now includes a link to a Dissertation on York's walls by Nana Zheng. It is big file that takes some time to load.
I quote below an article "THE CITY BEYOND WALLS - interview with Mr David Bruce" which shows how the EWT is perceived by an interviewer from another quarter of the world, Nana Zheng, who has had it published in ARCHNEWS 2012:10 pp 114-8.in Chinese and English.

Eurobarometer Tourism survey published
Euro Barometer is a mine of information on tourism across Europe potentially very useful to all marketers and planners in European walled Towns. It has to be said though that the small amount of graphical interpretation of the results, particularly with info weighted by Nation State population makes it less immediately useful than it could be.

Walled Towns as ideal destinations for student field study trips.
Student field study trips can be
of great value to any walled town that can attract them. An undergraduate field
study trip abroad may take up to 50 students and three members of staff for a
week – almost always out of season.
