Ptuj Draft Town Text (dmb)

A pre-Roman iron age town later an important Roman Colonia, Ptuj claims to be the oldest in Slovenia and now has a population of 23000. It has an historic fortified inner city beneath its mighty Castle. In the lands of the Archbishopric of Salzburg in the middle ages, as ‘Pettau’, it was in the Duchy of Styria after 1555 and as Ptuj in Yugoslavia after 1919.
