Youghal is a small town (6000 population) and traditional port at the mouth of the Blackwater River on the South Coast of Ireland with well preserved medieval walls. In the sixteenth century Sir Walter Raleigh owned a fine mansion and College. Today, by-passed, the town has a still heavily trafficked but attractive shopping street, featuring a medieval city gate (the Clockgate Tower). Beyond the walls lie a new residential town and seaside resort.
